Tons of wasted space

Hey everyone!

I'm having space troubles on my galaxy S4; the phone contains 16 gigs of internal memory and I also have a 16 gb SD card installed. However, I do not have that much stored on my phone. Maybe about 15 songs, a little over a handful of light apps and a decent amount of photos.

The odd thing is that when looking at the storage section of my phone it states I have 6.37 gb of "Miscellaneous Files" on my phone's internal storage. Upon clicking on the "Miscellaneous Files" section of storage and selecting all the files listed, only 1.1 gb of the files are shown.

How do I go about locating what the other files are and removing or relocating them?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, so thank you in advance.

Most likely the system files (OS) are included under miscellaneous files. This is normal in some phones.

I could see that being the case but this is relatively new in relation to how long I've had the phone. Does anyone have any other thoughts?

I have to agree with Javier P... the Misc files also includes the System files. Some devices, like my Note 4, combine the System files into the Misc files. However, on my tablet, the System files has it's own category. On my Note 4, my Misc files is ~8.65 gb, and if I add what's on the list, it comes to less than a gig. On my Note 10.1 2014 tablet, the System files category is 5.63 gb, while the Misc files shows 1.1 gb. If I add up my tablet list, it falls about 150 megs short of what is indicated.

Unless your System files are broken out into it's own category (doubt it), then your Misc files include the OS, system apps, system app data, or many other things associated with the system. Perhaps you just didn't notice it before.

Hmm ok, maybe it is just a bunch of system files then. Thank you for both for responding. Javier P. I apologize for not taking your word for it!

No need to apologise, mate! Some settings are different depending on the specific model or even carrier. I still recommend you to use that file explorer I linked before. It's very small and powerful at the same time. It will help you to understand what's taking most of your phone storage. Feel free to ask anything you need.
