Too many Launchers?

I'm playing around with several launchers on my Galaxy S2 (t-mobile). I go back and forth between setting default, but keep a shortcut for each one on the homescreen for easy access.

My question is, "Will having too many launchers mess up my phone?" Will installing/uninstalling launchers leave trace amounts of data/programs that will drain my battery or clunk up the system?

Do the launchers run in the background even if I am not using them?

I'm currently playing around with Apex and Nova, but want to also add GoLauncher, because I like their themes and widgits.

Is three installed launchers, on top of my touchwiz, too much?

Thanks to all who reply.

I always clear data and cache on my apps before uninstalling just to make sure none of that happens. Of course the only remnants will be on the sdcard and not in the main system. The way applications work is that there is a single apk and so removing it in essence removes all traces of it.
