Too Much Negativity

I agree. Haters do tend to come out at the beginning of every device that's released. Phone or Tablet. Doesn't matter.
After the device has been out a while, the Trolls go back under their bridge, then you can actually see the real user experience posts without all of the hater posts taking up space.
I tend to think the haters are those that want the device, but can't get it because they're locked into a contract and unable to upgrade at the time.
So they tend to bash the product, hoping others will do the same, thus making them not feel as bad about not having that device.

Solution: never, ever, ever buy a phone on contract / subsidized. Ever.

Well just because someone have strong opinions about a particular thing does not make them all haters. We certainly do have valid reasons to be disappointed but as Droid800 reminded me that the exynos will not work with LTE, I understand why they had to make the choice that they did. I would take LTE over better graphics since its lesser of the two evils.

Exynos could be made to work just like the tegra 2 was. Keep in mind LTE was not compatible at launch of the Xoom for months and months. Now I'm using LTE with tegra 2.

I think more of the issue is price. People refuse to pay more then 299 for a phone with contract but they want that 299 to be the bleeding edge of tech. The money just isn't there. So buy a 600 dollar phone (keep in mind that was initial tablet cost and the NG has better specs besides screen) or you don't get the best tech.

My only gripe is that many of the opinions aren't actually strong opinions.
They're pretty much people looking at spec sheets and haven't seen nor touched the device.
I consider a strong opinion one in which someone has used a device, found some bugs or shortcomings, and would post in regards to why they feel that particular company chose to use x instead of y.

That's because Motorola designed and built an LTE radio from scratch that would work with it, after trying and failing to get it to work with the original component. Samsung doesn't have the capability to do that as quickly as Motorola does, so that was not an option. (that, and the two situations are completely different, because the Exynos was designed end to end for the GS2, whereas Tegra was a plug and play component)

I'm not surprised by the negativity.. saw exactly the same with the Nexus S (which is still a great phone a year later), and even the Nexus 1, which was panned by the critics, and was also a great phone.

For me clean android, timely updates and trivial rootability trump a few extra mhz of processor any day, so it's either buy this Nexus or wait for the next one. What isn't really helpful is comparing the GN to a strawman 'perfect' phone then criticising it for not being it, without even seeing the device.

I could go onto any of a dozen forums on this board and say that particular model sucked because it didn't do something I liked. Instead, I simply buy something else.

They didn't use Schmidt because it is not a chip that all manufacturer's can use. It doesn't make much sense to use a chip in a platform development phone that only one manufacturer can use. The processor is not the problem, the 4460 will perform well, my issue is the gpu. I really could care less because the phone is a true powerhouse but, I wish it had a better gpu.

A new processor, HUGE state of the art screen, 1080p recording, a NEW OS optimized to run on said screen and optimized for the hardware in the device...that sounds pretty state of the art to me!

There's to much emphasis on spec sheets and the results of benchmark tools that aren't optimized for ICS. Just look at the Nexus S's spec sheet compared to the SGS line. They're essentially identical, yet the Nexus S blows it away! I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Google selected hardware that is going to make the software perform the best, period. There's enough GPU in this thing to run three times what it's going to run. The entire spec sheet discussion is similar to making a race car go from a 210mph top speed to 230mph top speed on a track that is impossible to go any faster than 175mph on.

At the end of the day, I think it's a good idea to let the device hit the streets for a month and see what every day users think before making a decision on what to buy. But again, we saw something similar with the Galaxy S line. The SGS was suppose to be bleeding edge, awesome processor, on and on. That processor wasn't optimized for Android. Add on TouchWiz, and it wasn't an enjoyable experience (and I LOVE my Vibrant).

Spec sheets mean very, very little. ICS and Google matching hardware with their software is going to be what counts! :)

I'm confused. Samsung doesn't have the capability to make Tegra 2 work with LTE like Motorola does? Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE was released prior to the Motorola Xoom's LTE upgrade.

Not only that, I think they did it better as it seems they are getting better battery life.

I think you are underrating lil ol Samsung, the worlds largest technology company (per sales).

Exynos is simply NOT compatible with LTE baseband chipsets available and there is a damn good reason why Google cherry picked OMAP 4460.
For everyone that is complaining about the processor, please quit crying and get yourself a SGS2. Get over it. You've never tried Nexus in it's current configuration running ICS so none of us is an expert on how's that gonna be running (besides Panda).
Just sit back and enjoy the upcoming days.

The problem is we are spoiled. Everybody's looking around the corner for the next greatest thing. An HD screen, brand new software, a 4460 processor, and you're going to pass this thing up, come on man! To everyone that is complaining about them using the TI 4460 over the Exynos, please read this article: Why the Galaxy Nexus uses OMAP instead of Exynos | ExtremeTech
Also, the new Galaxy S2 HD LTE doesn't even use the Exynos processor! There is a reason for this and it dam sure wasn't because it was on sale. Google worked with Samsung for months on this so why would Android pick the 4460 over the Exynos if the Exynos is such a beast? Again read the article.

I'm going to assume the reason for is because the galaxy nexus is running ics has hardware acceleration and its optimized, while the GS2 is still just running gingerbread. If anything, this benchmark shows how damn good the exynos is.

Motorola has been making cellular radios since before Samsung even thought of doing it. I never said Samsung COULDN'T do it, I said they couldn't do it as fast as Motorola.

Moto makes the best phones as far as build quality goes. Wishing the Nexus was made by Moto.
Edit: $199 for a Galaxy Nexus just confirmed that I'm getting one!!!!
