torn between the new Nexus 7 and Galaxy Tab 2

Yes, they should. I have an S4 and installed all the same apps, including purchased ones on my Nexus 7. Some apps may not though because the OS is newer on the Nexus 7. For example, HBO Go. Others may not have developed a tablet specific version but the phone one will still work. Are you asking more if they will be synced?

Not worries about sync as I believe data will cross from phone to tab without issue. Was concerned about some of my frequently used apps not displaying correctly, etc. Trial and error I suppose.

I use Business Calendar on my Galaxy Nexus, and Nexus 7. Exactly the same experience, except larger, and thus kinda nicer, on the Nexus 7.

One annoyance is that AmEx app doesn't work on Nexus 7.

You will know quickly. Once you login to your Google account on the new device, it will be registered. When you view Google Play on your PC to download an app remotely, it will tell you if the app is compatible with the Nexus 7 or not. So far the only that has given me a problem was HBO Go.

Not sure why the PlayStore won't allow us to download it on the Nexus 7. If you have another Android device that has it installed, use an app that will allow you to make a backup of non paid apps. Backup the app, send the .apk file to your Nexus 7, then install.

Awesome! That totally worked! I used the "Apk Extractor" app on my Galaxy S4 phone that had the app installed. It seems to be working absolutely perfectly on the Nexus 7, so I have no idea why AmEx doesn't let people install it from the Play Store.

I'm thinking because the app has phone calls permission. While the Nexus 7 doesn't have an integrated phone app, it automatically gets labeled as being incompatible.

It is but it starts to get out of the boundaries of the n7 category with a $299 price tag with only 16GB internal storage. That and weaker screen, dual core and only 1.5GB of ram. The multiscreen app ability can be nice though.

I have seen this tablet on sale few times already. Screen has lower resolution but extra inch makes a big difference. Also there is option in settings that sharpen fonts. It works great actually. I had this tablet for few days and I liked it a lot except for physical buttons. They were driving me crazy in landscape. On paper it is much slower tablet but in practice it does not feel that way with currently available apps and games. Multitasking feature is cool indeed.

It's a nice tablet, no doubt. I've played with both for countless hours and I ended up with the n7. Better bang for the buck and 4.3 is great to have. To each their own but I already have one Samsung device crowded with Touchwiz, I couldn't take having another if I had a choice. lol with all the apps that syphon power from my device, I can say, with confidence, that the tab 3 would be slower as an experience than my n7. That is based on my s3 being a similar spec'ed device and being slower than the n7 (except 2GB of ram on the S3, which I still don't see their logic charging so much for something without 2GB of ram).

The best tablets Samsung makes in my opinion is the Note line or the Nexus 10 if you want to count that. The Tab series is really stripped down compared to the other two.

I have a Galaxy tab 2 7 and a new nexus 7 2013. The galaxy tab 2 is sluggish even on Cyanogenmod. The new nexus 7 is amazing. It's seriously a beast.

Having used the Tab 2 (10.1, not the 7 inch) and the old Nexus 7, I found it to be very slow and full of bloatware. Even the old Nexus 7 was significantly better, and so the new one would probably destroy the Tab 2 (it's also quite an old tablet now, and you can bet it won't be updated anywhere near as frequently as the nexus).

For me, the biggest thing is I HATE AMOLED screens - or for sure Samsung's. The colors are just 'off', especially the white. I just can't stand looking at it. Plus Samsung's bloat and useless features.

Really liked my Galaxy Tab 2-- but my new Nexus 7 kicks ****! I haven't used the tab 2 since I got the Nexus 7. I'll either put a Linux rom on it or sell it.

Nexus 7 definitely a much more responsive tablet and an overall better value!

Great tip. Worked for me as well

I have the tab 2 7.0 and the new Nexus 7. I really hope the N7 retains its value better than the tab. For example, battery life on the tab has degraded a lot over the past year. The battery will die after a full charge with no use, and in standby for 48 hours. The Nexus 7 will lose about 4% with WiFi and Bluetooth on in the same amount of time. The screen on the N7 is amazing. I want to just throw the tab 2 out the window when looking at both screens side by side. Memory loading is over twice the speed on the N7 due to a better memory chip. The processor is way better on the N7. I never have had any noticeable studded in Asphalt 8, Riptide 2, or Subway Surfers.
