Toshiba's Honeycomb tablet webpage went live today:

Toshiba Honeycomb tablet website goes live | Android Central

With the rumored high price of the Xoom and and whispers that Verizon will require a data plan before letting you use WiFi is this device looking more intriguing to anyone? I personally don't want another monthly bill for a tablet that I'll be mainly using on my couch. There is still a lot we don't know about this device but I'm very interested in it. Your thoughts?

I'm conflicted about this. I know I'll be buying a Tegra 2 based honeycomb tablet, I like the Xoom and the offering from Toshiba, and I think I'd prefer the WiFi only unit. The trouble is we don't know for sure what that one will cost. If I get the Xoom it would mean taking internet service off my phone or only getting the data plan for a month to keep my monthly costs about the same. The wise thing to do would be muster some patience and wait until the Toshiba is out and maybe others so I can compare side by side. Patience and wisdom are not my strong suits though.

I like what I'm seeing here! So much that, as of today, it now has it's own forum :)

I am very much interested in the Toshiba. Spec wise I think it is as good as the Xoom and better in spots. For example, the USB port is a full size USB and If I understand the specs right, I think it will be a USB host, meaning you can plug in a thumb drive. the Xoom has a smaller USB port and its slave only. Of smaller concern is the HDMI port on the Xoom is micro, and full on the Toshiba. But I think functionally the micro is still the same so no big deal.

I also like the Toshiba backing which is texured for a better grip. Comes in multi colors too apparently, not that I think that matters.

Is there anything on the Toshiba that anyone thinks is less than the Xoom?

I guess one concern is the fact that Toshiba has added some of their own screen software for better visuals. But I wonder two things about that:
1. Will we still have access to the full Honeycomb experience? I like honeycomb.
2. Will Toshiba lock the boot loader? I hope not but you never know. I hope they take the path of Xoom and leave it open or optional.

Anyway - I was going to at least wait for the WiFi only Xoom no matter what. I think by the time that comes out we will hopefully know more about the Toshiba so I can make a better decision.

If they come out with stock HC, and a $549 wifi version, the Xoom will have a major fight on its hands. Very promising so far

I like what I've heard about this one so far. I think it stacks up well against Xoom. I'm holding off on any major tablet investment for a few months to get better look at new offerings coming down pipeline before making a commitment.

I'm hoping someone brings out a solid HC tablet in Wifi only for reasonable price. I think first manufacturer to do this will take lead in Android tablets.

Mark

I, too, will not pay Verizon for yet another data plan. Wi-Fi is all I need, and I am holding out until I have a chance to test drive the Toshiba.

I love my Toshiba Qosmio laptop; so, I am more than willing to consider Toshiba tablets.

Does this Tablet have access to the Android Market for all the apps?

It has access to the Android Market. The Android Market filters apps depending on the device you're using -- or, at least, my Droid Incredible sometimes won't see apps that other Android devices do; so, I suppose you may not see every Android app on the planet.

So I guess that means that I wouldn't see the verizon apps and things that might be specific to vendors. But I'm hoping I would see all the HoneyComb apps that the xoom or other tablets would see.

Yeah, you'll be able to. It's a honeycomb tablet, and will be able to see what any other honeycomb tablet can see, which should be just about anything.

Build quality is the question for me, IMO.

This thing could be a folio 2.0 or it could be really nice.

The screen also needs to be worlds better.

as for screen it will have Toshibas feature to make the pictures look amazing in clarity. also I just watched a video on the tablet u can get different colored backs I'm hoping yellow is one. and build quality is solid and the back has like a grippy stuff looks good. one down side is looks to be held in portrait mode even with the camera. any I hope we get news this week.

Hello,
Hey, this is complicating things for me! I was all set on a Xoom, then this...
Thanks,

I was thinking about this, but the 8.9" samsung tablet might be perfect.

Yea, I have to get my hands on the 8.9" Sammy before I decide. 7" is too small. 10.1" sounded perfect until the middleweight showed up. :)
