The two light on the bottom, between the "Home" key don't light up. (the "back" button) ... ???

Welcome to Android Central! What phone do you have? Do you have any screen dimming apps installed and active? Some of them can also turn off the soft key backlights.

It should be in your setting under display towards the bottom you can change it there.
