Touch Screen Issues - Need Some Advice

I am having some of the touch screen issues that have been reported. After playing a game for awhile, the touch screen will start acting funny, no longer accepting touch inputs. For me, if I reboot the tablet, it works fine after that.

I have two of the 16 GB models. I bought one from Sam's Club, since I was impatient to wait for mine from my Google Play pre-order. I still haven't opened my Google Play pre-order box. I was just going to return it, but now with my touch screen issues I'm not sure what to do.

If this is a software problem, it will be fixed by Google with an OTA. If it's hardware, it won't be fixed by an OTA and should probably be taken back to Sam's.

What would you do in my shoes? Keep the one from Sam's and hope it's fixed with software, or take it back and then open the Google Play pre-order?

I had the touch screen issue and I thought it was software and after reading some of the threads I was afraid to trade one problem for another. It seemed to improve a bit after the second update. Something told me to exchange it because it really irritated me, though I love the tablet. I exchanged it at Gamestop. My new one is perfect. I think you should exchange it or get a refund and try the other one.

Thanks you for the response!

How long have you had the replacement?

I noticed that mine seemed to always act up when playing minecraft for awhile. Did you notice any pattern of when yours would mess up?

I am now having the same touchscreen issue. The Game stop where I bought mine does not have any others in stock. Does anyone know if I can return this through Google? Thanks.

nope, only through gamestop.

You got it from Sam's. They have a great return policy. I would return it. I had this issue as well and returned the N7 and bought one from Micro Center since Sam's did not have anymore left. But the one I got was flawless. I would definitely return it while you still can.

thanks for the response. i guess you have tried the same tasks on your new N7 that caused the issue on the old N7?

Yea I did. For me, it was more touch issues on the right side of the screen. I couldn't move apps on the homescreen, swiping was very difficult. It was painfully obvious that something was wrong. Could be hardware or software, not sure. But I got the new one and it works fine with no issues. Seems much faster because no touch issues.

It took me two days to figure out what to do. I really didn't want to return because of the hassle. Just call Sam's in your area and see if they have them in stock. If they do, shouldn't be a problem with exchanging.

You can return it Google but gamestop should get you one. I contacted Google when my nephew's went bad.

Interesting, I was told by others that if you call Google and didn't purchase it from them, they would turn you away to the retailer.

My unit is having problems with response too, on the right side when on for a bit.

There seems to be quite a bit of people with the issue, but no one seems to know if it's hardware or software related.

Google has to honor their manufacturer warranty. They have no choice. Asus also offers a two year warranty on the screen and they will have to honor that. Google sent me an address label just in case GS gave me a hard time, but they didn't.

I think the story of Google sending people away was started by people who were upset about shipping delays. No one since it's release has repeated it.

Good to hear that.

Sad new for me, I took mine back to Sams Club with no problems. I opened my pre-order and was setting it up. I noticed the screen is lifting up on the left side. Sigh..... I have already called Google and the entire return phone call was only 7 minutes, so that is good. The replacement Nexus 7 should ship in the next couple days.

3rd time is a charm, right?

I think they were back when they were already overloaded with direct orders and direct returns, in an attempt to keep their exchange channel open for direct order exchanges as opposed to sending the customer back to the retail channel they got it from.

Things seem to have settled down a bit now that they are somewhat more readily available in the retail channel, so people might not be calling in the volumes they once did and they can now handle the load.

I have used mine for a week. Playing games but after I ran Google navigation for 1.5hrs drive I've had touch problems for two days now. I don't have to play games. Already rebooted and left it turned off. I'm typing in the forums and suddenly some keys aren't hitting and the developer touch visual doesn't happen either. I've been using it with the Dev options on. I turned of screen and it works again. I had it in the car it was really hot to touch 50deg C but worked great! Not sure the cause.

According to the Quick Start guide:

SAFE TEMPERATURE: This Nexus 7 should only be used in environments with ambient temperatures between 0 C (32 F) and 35 C (95 F).

Is anyone else having this issue with their Nexus 7? I still sorta am... usually after gaming for a while, the touch screen becomes less and less responsive. Usually after I reboot, it's fine, but it gets annoying. Dunno if I should get a replacement or not.
