Is there a way to mod the backplate on the Evo to make it work with a Touchstone? I'm guessing that Palm has a patent on the Touchstone so I don't think 3rd party manufactures would be making back that will allow inductive charging from a Touchstone to (insert phone here).

While I'm not sure how that works on the Pre I don't think it will be possible on the EVO. Just my guess though.

I know some company was making Inductive charging back plates or something for phones. It's not the same as the touchstone though. To mod the Evo and to work with the touchstone, we would need to know how much power the Evo needs and how much power the Touchstone can give out. Other things too, but that is the first step.

It probably reduces the battery because the charging circuitry takes up space. They want to keep the battery the same size so it will fit into the compartment.

it's just to bad they only have the Powermat for a few devices and they've been around for the last year and a half. I don't see them coming out with an adapter for the Evo.

Check out the link, they are making batteries now and eliminating adapter/cases. Its nicer cause it doesn't add anymore bulk.

Touchstone will not work on the Evo. When you open up the backplate of the pre, you see those two prongs? thats how it charges the battery. There is also a tiny magnet that holds the device in place. You would essentially need to modify circuitry to run those wires to the charging port on the battery to charge. Its much easier just buying the mat and battery sold above.

But to the OP question...

I would highly doubt that the touchstone would work with anything other than Palm.

I've been patiently waiting for the Powermat Powerpak products to be released........they are painfully slow to put any new information out. We can only hope they work diligently on the high profile phones like the EVO, INC and such. Here are the models they listed back in February: HTC Hero, Google Nexus One, Apple iPhone 3GS, LG BL40 and BlackBerry Bold 9700.

The powermat is nice but its not a touchstone. The touchstone also works like a cradle and a car mount as well as a charger.

I guess its just another reason I will be keeping my Pre. I can't imagine life without all my touchstones. :)

I'm sure Powermat can make a car mount easily if they wanted to.

The Powermat is just a charging solution, doesn't need to do more for me. The Touchstone is nice but the Pre really doesn't do it for me......

Great accessories don't make up for half ass hardware and other issues for me. I like my touchstone but my Pre is gone on June 4th.

The touchstone was on my list of "I'll miss it"...

but not THAT much! The rest of the specs on this phone will more than make up for the touchstone loss. Plus, the main reason I liked the touchstone was because I use it as an alarm clock... EVO has the lil kickstand - Totally makes up for that!

+1 ftw!

Yeah. Not enough to prevent me from switching, but it would be cool if there were a mod.

check youtube

I saw the mod for the touchstone to work on the evo. It looked really clean from the outside, but he didn't show how he did it. Youtube it.

I miss my touchstone very much, the ability to just drop it on and leave it there was awesome. Especially since now i cant just pick my phone off the charger and talk. The kickstand is ok, but nothing like a touchstone.
