Question Wifi texting

I know Google messages allows Wi-Fi texting. It is not very customizable. I was trying to use Textra or chomp. Will that work with Wi-Fi only? I have AT&T and it uses Wi-Fi calling. Will that be a work around that will allow textra or Chomp to be used with wi-fi? Anyway suggestions?thanks in advance!

As far as I can recall only Google messages allow WiFi messages, could be wrong as I don't really use 3rd party, maybe check beeper universal chat or signal messages
