What's the purpose of bit.ly? I know its a url shortner but do people actually use it and what for?

Twitter allows 140 characters per tweet, shortenning a link like http://forum.androidcentral.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=46085 (this page) is 67 characters alone.
Bit.ly cuts that down by 40 characters https://passport.mobilenations.com/...7LD0OJNl8yuNC6XNcXBHZeleMLPyHTRkjGT5fG-tDug,, allowing you to tweet a sentence or 2 along with your link.

I downloaded this today after reading all the positive reviews. This app actually got me back into using Twitter, which is either good or bad, depending on where my time goes. The only problem I have with it is that the Widget is completely useless for me. It doesn't update and force closes repeatedly. Unfortunate really, but the app itself is otherwise excellent.

I'm in the same boat as you Corey. I haven't used my twitter for months but now I am again thanks to this app. I gave in and got the premium version. Do I have to register for bit.ly or can I use the service right away?

When you type a tweet, there will be an icon under the text box with a picture of a chain link and two arrows pointing in. That should shrink the url to the bit.ly address.

Its coming. You can now tap on a tweet and the last 4 tweets will show as a convo.

I don't see this option.

I tried this yesterday and the app seems slow to me. I'll keep checking it out in the coming weeks. One thing I love, though, is the drag down bar to post a new tweet. That's a great UI touch. It's better than the Seesmic way of using the menu button.

I agree. It will be faster. The next update adresses that issue.

Maybe I'm crazy but this app does not refresh after you send your own tweet. That needs to be addressed ASAP. Also have been reading other Nexus One owners having a laggy experience.

Great start, just needs some fine tuning. And it will come.

Did you download the lastest update. Its supposed to address the lag. My tweets show up within 2-3 seconds.

Still does not refresh after posting a tweet. That's something all twitter apps should do. Am I the only one with this issue?

***OK, after the update it is refreshing after posting a new tweet.

No there are more fixes. It will give you the full list after you update when you open the app.

- Reworked the loading screens in tweetphoto, profile and main view
- You can use the Back button from Favorites, Lists, mention and DM(direct Mesages) to get back to the timeline
- Added notifications settings to refresh every 3/5 minutes
- fixed a bug where native retweets by others were displaed in the wrong chronoligical order
- Faster status update and replies
- Scrolling speed increase
- Refreshing the timeline is faster
- Andriod 1.5 fix for the profile page
- it should remember the position in the timeline better
- Refreshing the trends and list of lists is a manual action (press menu)
- Popup messages now disappears faster
