TPU Cases now Available for the SGS2 (Includes Screen Protector)

Re: TPU Cases now Available for the SGS2 (Includes Screen Protect

Yea, check here... Maybe yours will be different though.

thats really unfortunate... as i don't really want to use the phone without one. but i'm assuming trimming it a bit would help?

anyone else have the same situation?

For those of you who have tried this case out... I can't remember how much the camera bumps out on the E4GT, but does this case cover it enough so that you can lay it down and not hit the glass covering the lens?

Yes, looks to be a little less than a 1/16" cushion

Ordered one of these Epic prophylactics last night in "smoke". Crazy things happen when you're surfing the net at 3 in the morning. I'll report back when it comes in with photos.

I've never ordered from TPU before (or even heard of them) but for nine dollars its cheap enough to throw away if I hate it.

Re: TPU Cases now Available for the SGS2 (Includes Screen Protect

After having the case on the phone for a full day, I will say I have one gripe about it. I'm finding it hard to press the volume rocker. Since I have to give it a harder push, I find myself putting my fingers on the opposite side of the phone for leverage, which happens to be exactly where the sleep/wake button is. I've slept my phone a few times now, which is annoying when you're taking video and you press the volume rocker to zoom in and out (sleeping the phone stops recording immediately).

The case is nice, but I do find this to be a negative. I'm thinking a cutout hole would have been better.

+1 on this.. A pain in the ass

The owner actually commented on the volume button situation on XDA:

Post:
The case fits great, but man is the matte finish make for a slippery surface!
Any chance you will consider making a cut out for the volume keys, kind of hard to push.
Great product, as always

Response:
I'd love too but putting that large of a hole in the side of a case made of this material causes it to loose its tight fit. What happens is the case becomes very loose on the volume side and will sag a bit. The fact that Samsung uses such small volume buttons doesn't help the situation much either. I know the volume rocker on this phone is pretty small but the hole would need to be bigger then the actual buttons so you could get your fingers in there. The only solution I have if you are struggling with the volume rocker for now is using the Volume Control+ app that lets you use the touch screen to change the volume. We definitely want to improve the volume rocker in the future some way.

Thanks freddyc. That's too bad, but understandable. I'll take a tight fit over a hard to press volume rocker. I guess I'll just have to get used to it. A volume app might be a workaround, but I don't know how that would work with the video camera function's zoom feature. Is there a way to zoom in and out from the screen?

Re: TPU Cases now Available for the SGS2 (Includes Screen Protect

The volume rocker doesnt bother me. I wouldn't have mind if they covered up the power button as well like the nexus 4g case, which was much harder to push than this case. I've never accidentally pressed the power button yet. I just position my fingers away from it.

I may get another one just to switch it up.

Re: TPU Cases now Available for the SGS2 (Includes Screen Protect

sorry about the bump but I did say I'd be back with pictures when my TPU case arrived.

This is the matte Smoke color. Its basically a translucent gray. Day one with the case the volume buttons were a bit stiff, seems to have softened up quite a bit. Perhaps I'm just getting used to it. One thing I love, the cut out for the power button actually keeps me from pressing the darn thing by mistake all the time. It did come with the screen protector but I screwed up applying it so I'm just running naked on the screen. Its got gorilla glass and I'm really careful about what I put in my pocket with it so I'm not worried.

YES, I CONCUR!!

I have a TPU case and I love it except for the non-cutout for the volume rocker. It is hard to press, and feels weird because you have to press it so hard to register a press. If the power button has a cutout, why not the volume rocker too?

I'll gladly buy another one if you guys can make a version with a cutout for the volume rocker!!

Otherwise, a great case...

Unfortunately, it's not possible to have a cutout for the volume rocker. I had emailed Clay about the issue, and here was his reply:

This is a known issue on all cases made of this material. It's the reason why we started using a cutout for the power button. Unfortunately we cannot do the same for the volume rocker as it requires too large of a hole. Placing that large of a hole in the side of a TPU case will cause it to loose its elasticity and fit the phone very loosely. I agree the buttons are a bit stiff but they are at least still usable. The only solution I have is a great free app called Volume Control+ that's available in the Market. This lets you control the volume using your touch screen. I personally don't have a problem pressing the volume buttons with the case on and I still use the app anyways just because it lets you control so many different volume settings. I suppose that wont help with the zoom in and zoom out though (although i bet there is a way to do that on the touch screen too). Thanks for the input and we are working on ideas for making the volume rocker better in the future. Since we have already thinned out the material around the volume rocker, the most likely solution is to mold little nubs on the inside of the volume rocker so it makes better contact similar to what they do on silicone cases. The thing that's giving us trouble is nubs can sometimes cause the button to press itself. Hopefully we will find a solution.

I can live with it, because I like everything else about the case. Also, how often do you get that kind of personal reply from an online retailer. I appreciated the personal touch. Anyhoo ... there ya go.

Seems everyone loves the TPU case. Wish it had some sort of belt clip system or I just need bigger pockets

Re: TPU Cases now Available for the SGS2 (Includes Screen Protect

I'm still not seeing the issue with the volume rocker that everyone else is talking about. I use my volume rocker a few times a day while in the TPU case and have never had an issue with adjusting the volume level.

Can't wait until get mine this week. Naked phones are beautiful, but I'd be horrified if I dropped this baby. Nice that they replied back with the reasoning behind their design. Not enough companies give that kind of feedback. +1.

Sent from my Epic 4G Touch

Thanks for the info, too bad but not a big deal. I just tried out the volume rocker and it does seem to have improved somewhat from before (more tactile feel of pressing the button than before, or it may just be my imagination).

After seeing the Matte Translucent Smoke, I changed my mind. I emailed TPU and they switched the order. Clay, from TPU, was super helpful and friendly.

This type of customer service doesn't exist anymore. It's great to see that this company going old school with the customer service.

I'll always do business with them just for the service.

Re: TPU Cases now Available for the SGS2 (Includes Screen Protect

Hi all, first post here.
I received my phone last Friday and finally acquired the case today. It came with the screen protector and cleaning cloth but no instructions. This may be an idiotic question but just how are you supposed to install the screen protector?
Thanks, David.
