TPU, Seidio, etc cases actually cause MORE SCRATCHES!

and sgsIII has gorilla glass II, which is even more scratch resistance

old phones used to have plastic lcd's, so it was scratch prone, but shatter proof

According to Corning, it's not more scratch resistant. It's just thinner and lighter while providing the same protection as the thicker original gorilla glass. This provides a better sensitivity for touch screens.

oh ok...i thought i read somewhere where II was actually scratch proof, while the first version was more "resistant" to it

Wouldn't it make sense to keep whatever case you feel protects your phone best, and to simply take it off and clean it regularly? I agree that dirt/grime get inside, and yes it probably causes micro-scratches, but personally I clean mine regularly, and I have no problem. I'd rather have a functional phone that won't break if it drops than one that looks more "natural" but will surely shatter the glass or crack the case if dropped.

I don't mean to judge or poke fun at people (or call them lazy), but in that awful picture did you EVER take the freaking case off and clean the phone (and inside of the case) ?!
I have been a Seidio junkie ever since my Palm Pre. They were the only ones that made a decent case for that phone at the time I got it. I cannot tell you how many time I dropped that d* phone. Never cracked, never broke. I continued with Seidio when I got my EVO 2 years ago. I also dropped that phone regularly, but only really 2 major drops. 1 drop was so bad it cracked the case and I had to get another one (phone was completely fine). One drop did nothing to the phone or case. I can assure you without the case both of those drops would have destroyed the phone.
Maybe I'm in the minority but I generally take my case off about once every 2 - 3 weeks and clean my phone. I takes all of 30 - 45 seconds to do, and none of my phones ever looked like that picture.
My wife has an Otterbox on her IP4S, I assume the defender, which also has a clear plastic window for the front of the phone. This case is basically a giant bubble for the phone. Highly protective, and I am betting maintenance free, but it's WAYYY too bulky for me. I think maybe people that don't want to worry about cleaning the phone every once in awhile should look into those.

honestly i dont know what your complaining about. I've used nothing but soft rubber and tpu cases and i've never gotten scratches. I have from hard plastic cases but rubber. You say its the dust and dirt getting in the case but once again i've never had this problem. Yes dirt gets in the case but it never damages it.
I've taken it on deployments to which it gets exposed to dust, dirt, sand, you name it.. but none of that scratched the phone.
Im not sure what kind of death grip your putting on you phone that causes enough pressure to make the typical bits of dust and lint maybe a crumb or two press so hard on the phone that it scratches it (noticeably). I'd say you may have a problem if their were sharp jagged rocks (more like pebbles) inside your case for whatever reason.. Maybe some metal shavings but thats about it.
