Tracking kitkat: on Motorola Droid MAXX

Anyone else seeing excessive awake time when the screen is off (since 4.4)?

Look at moto x threads here, on xda, or moto's own forums. You'll see quite a few threads about KK's impact on battery life. I'm hoping not to get it on my maxx for as long as possible unless moto and google fix this. It seems that google services is the problem. 4.4.2 is supposed to fix some of this.

I turned off Motorola Connect, disabled Droid Command Center and Weather (the built in service), and switched to ART. We'll see if any of that makes a difference.

FWIW, Motorola Connect kept saying "checking status" like it couldn't connect for the past day or so. I think that might have been one of the things keeping it awake.

I can't say I'm having this issue. Now, I disabled a lot of apps I do not ever care to use that do not impact my general phone performance. That said, of all the "Awake" time on my phone in nearly two days being off the charger, easily 80 percent of it, if not more, matches up with "Screen on".

Maybe you should continue to examine what apps you're using and what "background work" they may be doing, as you addressed in another post. I'm not saying KitKat is without problems, but a look at app usage could yield more immediate answers.

I'm usually pretty conscious of what's going on the the background, and I've disabled a bunch of stuff I don't use (or I did a while ago). The awake time is all from Android OS. I'm reasonably sure it's something with KitKat.

Went ahead and upgraded to KK as per post 22. Spot on. Thanks.

Re: Tracking kitkat:

Still run Clean Master to free up ram and it seems to eat up more with the apps.

Google should ban those kind of apps. Free RAM is wasted RAM in a Linux environment. I suspect the OS knows better how to use available RAM than the typical user.

More power to you if you think it helps things, though.
