So I dig my 2 iPod Touches 2nd and 3rd gen for muisc and audiobooks, it's a good eco-system and the prices are pretty decent. I also dig my Apple TV for buying my movies and TV shows, although that may now change since Google has started getting this content.
History: The Acer Iconia A500 that I owned was the only device that I messed around with and loaded different roms or whatnot. I'm just an enthusiast that wanted to see what could be done.
Tablet life: I started off with an Acer Iconia A500 as my first tablet, thought it was a little too big and a little to weighty, but a damn fine device. Sold that one to my boss and got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 which I really like weight and screenwise. I still have this device.
I got all whipped up in the iPad 3 thing because of the display and ended up buying one, a 32gb wifi only.
At first it was really neat, the display is really good but, maybe it's just me, it's not that much better than my Galaxy 8.9. I found myself using the "new iPad" a lot over my Galaxy 8.9 at first but it just seemed that I needed to do more to get to what I wanted on the iPad compared to the Galaxy.
After the newness wore off I found myself going back to my Galaxy 8.9, more and more because it was lighter and easier to hold in the hand. It could do all the things that I wanted out of the iPad in a more comfortable form factor. There are some awesome tablet apps on the iPad that I do wish could be the same on Android though. I'm a news junkie and I totally loved Flipboard on the iPad. The one we have on Android is a phone only app and can't really capture the experience, actually I think that is my only real big deal between the 2. I'm not really a big gamer on the tablet yet, but I am a big gamer on PC.
So, I wasn't using my iPad for thought I would be using it for, watching movies, TV shows and stuff, I'd put videos on it to show off to my bros at work but didn't use it that way for myself personally. I have watched videos on my Galaxy 8.9 at home, but a full movie can get a little heavy even with that one. TV shows are not a problem.
After dealing with the Acer Iconia A500 - 10.1 inch device, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 device and the Apple iPad 9.7 inch device, I've come to a conclusion that a 7 inch device would be the perfect one. This was after playing around with the Acer Iconia A100, Samsung Galaxy 7.0 plus and a Kindle Fire.
I just can't believe it took me so long to get there, the 7 inch thing, that is, but I think it was all about the hype of all the 10.1 devices that were getting put out and that I already had 2 iPods and was looking to see what the other team offered, lol.
After reading a post on XDA today I decided to trade in my iPad 3 for the Nexus 7. I know I probably won't see it until August but I'm not worried after reading all of the reviews of the unit and my lack of use of the iPad. I'm not knocking the iPad but that form factor is just not right for me and even my Galaxy Tab 8.9 is just a smidge out of perfect. I am taking a leap that the 7 inch form factor will be perfect, but from my testing of other 7 inch devices (at a lower resolution) leads me to believe that I have made the right choice size and weight-wise.
PS Storage: This was a thing that I was worried about with the Nexus 7. I worried about it a lot when I got my Motorola Photon but I find that I use the cloud, at least for music, a lot more since Google Music came out, and it's so awesome not to have that take up space on your device. What I don't do a lot of on my devices is watch video as much as I thought I would, but I read a lot more. That may have something to do with the weight of the device and the availablity of TV's in my house, and that I never really get a good chance to watch stuff at work (peeps always buggin me at lunch and stuff).
End Game: I gave up my 32gb wifi iPad "new" today for the 16gb Nexus 7 and I feel no regrets.
