Android Central Question

My old phone (Note 4) was dying and no longer reliable. I managed to copy it's contents to my computer, but didn't create specific backup files for my apps. I now have my new phone (Note 9) and thought I'd be able to copy and paste the folders onto the new phone once I had all of the same apps.

Is there a way to get my new phone to recognize my old app data?

I guess I forgot to mention the part that my phone WAS dying, and has now been dead since Monday of last week. Fully charged battery, phone doesn't even attempt to turn on anymore.

I didn't expect it to fully die before my preordered Note 9 arrived. I had copied everything because I was mostly trying to save my photos, which did work, but didn't think much about the apps. I just want to know if there's any way to utilize any of the data that I do have access to.

Those data are just app data that don't contain saves. Just additional data resources for the app like graphics or code. Your save data would have been in the system partition that would have been invisible to Windows. So even if you manage to use the data you have it would just mean you don't need the app to redownload resources. It won't have your save data or game progress.

You should have used the SmarSwitch Windows program to backup the phone.

Anyway, lesson learned. Install SmartSwitch on your PC and keep a backup of your phone there.

Also some apps actively prevent access to save data by backup program. So if the app had its own backup utility, use that.
