Transfer contents or start fresh?

You can deselect the Verizon apps before you transfer.

That’s what I ended up doing. I didn’t remember being able to choose before. There are a lot of apps I have no idea what they even are without looking it up. Hopefully it’s safe to just delete those that snuck in.

From pc you'll have to find a application similar to smart switch.

Smart switch is made for Samsung phones to make this type of stuff painless , straight forward,.

@mustang7757: i got confused.

may i please ask if you meant that smart switch makes it ok to go directly from my S10+ to my new S20 Ultra because smart switch is made for this type of transfers? or, are you saying that it is BETTER to go from my S10+ to my PC first, and then go from my PC to my S20 Ultra?

initially, i thought you were suggesting that i really ought to go to a PC first and then go from the PC to my new S20 Ultra, but this last post makes it sound like you are saying since smart switch is MADE for this type of transfers, there is no need to go through a PC as an intermediary.

also: you said one would have to find an application for PC's use. you mean smart switch can't automatically sync to a pc and i'll have to find a program to do that?

With Smart Switch, there's an option to backup to SD card. After, put the card in the new phone & then restore from the SD card.

That's what I do, it's much faster than wireless or cable.

Use only smart switch
Do a back up on your s10+ first since it has everything on it still , then once it's back up to smart switch plug your s20 in tap restore then choose the back up u made for s10+

I allow Google's backup and restore to reinstall all the apps, but other than that I do a fresh install.

Fresh. Knowing that everything is new, not transferring old material.

Knowing that it will take HOURS to download, set up and customized it all just to make it look like my Note 10+.

I will make that sacrifice. LOL

This time around I only transferred my text messages. Installed all apps separately, it's a good way to trim some fat. Get rid of the apps you never use.

I used Smart Switch today, everything transferred over well except my calendar. Totally my fault for not double checking before I factory reset my S10+...but I've spent most of today restoring the calendar by hand and by memory.

I always start fresh. don't want to bring old issues to a new device. plus restoring from backups never really works well for me anyway wether it's iOS or android. plus I like seeing which apps I bother to put on the new device.

to be clear on the process, do you install anything on the old phone or is it just a matter of connecting the S20 to the old phone via either cable or wireless and using smart switch on the s20?
