As the Title states, I am looking for the best procedure to follow in setting up a new phone. This will be my first time going from Android to Android and want to make sure everything makes its way to the new phone.

As a side note, how difficult is it to switch between 2 phones. Once I have the new one setup I would like to play around with rooting my Eris.

If you're willing to root both phones, you can use Titanium Backup to transfer apps and app data (although there may be an issue with the screen difference). If not, then you're going to lose all your app data that isn't backed up somewhere.

For contacts, just make sure they're synced to Gmail, or find a contact backup app on the market (Lookout does this, too). Same goes with emails. If you really need to keep your texts and call log, there are probably a few apps that can do that.

Everything else you pretty much have to set up manually.

I would use AppBrain to store your free and paid apps. It makes re-loading much easier. All you have to download is the AppBrain app and then do a sync and it will allow you to reload everything you have now.

I would also grab a file manager to make sure you move everything you can from Phone storage to your SD card. Then all you have to do is move your SD card to the new phone and your pictures, music and stuff will be there.

G-mail is g-mail...

It would not hurt to see if your contacts app has a backup setting... I know Sence does but I'm not sure about others. Better safe then sorry.

If you sync with Outlook with a Cable I would do 1 final sync just to be sure you have everything.

After that you should be good to go!

Hope this helps.
