In general, though, I strongly recommend saving all of your contacts to your Google account, as opposed to the local Phone or Samsung account, because contacts saved to Google get synced immediately to your Google Contacts in the cloud. They can then sync very easily with any other device you log into. If something happens to your phone, the contacts are still safe in the cloud. Phone account contacts usually don't get synced anywhere, so if you lose them, they're gone.

I agree with B. Diddy 110% but I'll also add that you should back up your photos to your google acct as well. There are plenty of other places that offer photo backup but your google+ acct is free and basically unlimited (really large photos will eat into your google drive storage)
