I read on Sony's manual that you can transfer media files on the sd card by doing the following:

Settings > Storage > Transfer data to SD card.

This supposedly transfers photos, music and videos to the sd card.

Does this works for all apps, or only the Sony apps? For example will Google Music start caching on the sd card too, or do I need to specify this preference manually for other apps?

Thanks

ps: I don't have the device on me right now, since it's not mine, but I will check it out for myself tonight when I get back home.

Well, in my experience, it works with most apps. I download music from Amazon and my private cloud drive. When I do, I can transfer the media files to my SD card.

However, Google Play music does not work if you just download from Google to your phone. Google uses a funky file name convention that "disguises" the file. To get my Google Play music to work reliably I have to download it to my PC (which downloads as a normal MP3), upload the MP3 file to my cloud drive and then download it to my phone. Then the transfer to SD works fine. I hate the extra step though.

So basically what you are saying is that if you want google music to play songs that are stored on the sd card rather than the phone internal memory, you have to put them there yourself, rather than pin them on the google music app and ask google music to store on the sd card? That sounds rather complicated =(

Ok so I checked tonight and all this option does is transfer current media files from the phone to the sd card. But I still had to tell the camera to start using the sd card to store pictures and videos, and similarly with every other app that gives you the choice - which in this case amounts to only google music..

No when you pin after you select storage location external then it pins straight to the SD card.
