Just saw the unboxing video of ASUS Transformer. It has a a proprietary charger as well!! Also, could they make the bezel any larger?

I have been debating returning WiFi Xoom for Transformer but those two things are not a good start. Let's see what the pricing of unit with keyboard dock comes out to.

What does everyone think of these proprietary chargers? Woudn't it be nice to have mini USB chargers that work with your phone as well.

Yeah. It would be nice but since the battery life is super long i dont have any issues. Also seems to charge fast.

The last time I checked this is a Xoom forum so please post about the Transformer in the proper forum. I think I speak from the majority of happy Xoom owners when I say we do not care about the Transformer charger.

Man up Xoom owners be proud of your device.

USB cannot provide charging speeds quick enough for the battery in the Xoom (and I assume, the Transformer). So if it used the micro-USB port for charging, users would complain that their devices take too long to charge. I'll stick with what I have.

Why are people talking bout the transformer in the Xoom forum?! I don't care bout it, if I did I would go to its forum!

They are a necessary evil, USB ports just don't put out the power. I'm happy with a relatively quick charge. :)

He compares it to the xoom if you bothered reading the whole post :p

I agree...that is one reason why I even deal with the xoom charger, the charging time is awesomely fast!

However, I don't understand why they don't have both as an option.....they should let it be able to charge via usb when a wall outlet isn't available, albeit a slower charge

Thank you for seeing that.

I am indeed a Xoom owner at this time but I (along with several other members of this forum) have been contemplating the switch to Transformer due to various reasons. It might help some members to discuss and compare the two tablets so that an informed decision can be made when the time comes.

It isn't just the speed of the charge. These pads all likely have 7.3V or higher batteries in them. A USB charger (5V max) will never charge them.

Don't expect to see any tablet in this size charge from USB.

what about the ipad?

what about the ipad?

iPads charge via 5V 4.2A plug.

But that being said, if the Xoom has a 7.3V battery pack, why that rather than a 5V? Better battery management on the iPad to be able to use 5V?

Another thing is that the iPad can be charged on regular USB but takes twice as long than the wall charger.

My only complaint is the TINY pin thats used. I just have nightmares if I am using the Xoom if its being charged and accidentally bumping it and breaking the pin inside. I bought the dock that charges via the two copper contacts on the bottom which is a better idea.
