Transitioning from an iPad.

Ladies & Gents,

I currently use a new iPad as my content absorption device. I gamed for the first few months I had it and game only very occasionally now. I read A LOT and I use the Kindle App exclusively. So my beef with the new iPad is that it just gets awkward to hold when reading for a few hours. I think I would prefer the smaller form factor. Also, I use a Galaxy S3 so I'm familiar with the Android ecosystem. Couple questions- any iPad owners with advice on how well the transition goes? Second, I'm worried about quality given what I've seen. Thoughts?

Many thanks.

I've gotten two defective Nexus 7s and I spoke with a Google Play customer service rep today about a third Nexus 7. She tells me Google has a new batch and these fix a lot of the issues many computers are having problems with such as the raised screens. So I'm hoping the third time is the charm for me. And anyone buying a Nexus 7 around now might have a better experience than those of us that got the first batch. Though of course you could still get something from the first batch and it could be perfectly fine too.

I've had an iPad and still use an iPad 3, but been using Android phones longer. So I've always been more acclimated to Android than iOS. I hate iTunes, but one thing I did like about it was the backup feature, Android doesn't seem to have anything quite this nice. There are backup apps, but you'll need to unlock and root the device to take advantage of them. Unlocking and rooting probably well worth it if you are comfortable doing that type of thing.

Unfortunately some of the Android versions of apps aren't as good as their iOS counterparts. But at least our YouTube app is a hell of a lot better.

And probably the greatest thing about Android though is you can totally make it yours. You should take out third party launchers like Nova Launcher and Apex that let you tweak the look of the interface, or you might like just sticking to stock more. Lots of widgets. It's really nice just how much you can customize and change the look of Android.

I ordered my n7 on july 14th, received it on the 26th and its flawless. Build quality is actually pretty good compared to my other Samsung galaxy devices. Hopefully most people that ordered after the 14th will get the "new" batch. It should be really easy to transition from an iPad. It is a sweet piece of tech.
