Hi all. I'll be traveling to Vietnam from the US in March. I've read that the simplest is to just switch the SIM card to one purchased in Vietnam for the duration of my trip. I'm with Verizon and don't want to pay their $10 a day for an international SIM card. I expect I will mainly be using messaging and wifi for updating my family while I'm gone.

Anyone have any tips or experience?

Yep, but I wouldn't suggest bringing your note 8. You can buy an international sim with voice and data from any of the small mom and pop stores.

Just came back from Vietnam. Beautiful country.

Yep since you have a Verizon Note 8 it is unlocked right out of the box. A simple SIM swap is all you need.
