I'm traveling overseas later in the year (Israel) and AT&T has given me the code to unlock my Galaxy SIII. I have ordered an Orange prepaid SIM card, which I think I may have to cut to get into the micro-sim slot, but once I have it I think I can unlock the phone.

With an unlocked phone and prepaid SIM, do I have to do anything to get data other than reboot with the new sim card? Any changes to settings? I have seen threads on the Verizon forum where they say you need to change the APN settings, but I don't know if that is just a Verizon issue.

Does anyone have experience with this?

You might well have to, but that's a pretty quick and painless thing to do.

Hi David,

I'm travelling overseas for like a month in August. I pretty sure my Galaxy S3 is locked from when I got it from AT&T. How did you get them to just give you the unlock code? Seemed so easy? Did you call or speak to someone at the store? I'll be travelling to different countries, so I'd definitely like my phone to be unlocked so I can insert local Pre-Paid Sim cards.

Thanks!
K

AT&T always sells their phones locked. If you have had it long enough that you are eligible for a full upgrade, they will usually give you the unlock codes. Just call them up and tell them you are traveling overseas, and hopefully they will give it to you. If not, ask when you will be eligible to receive the codes and they should tell you.

Hope that helps!
