Yesterday, out of nowhere, my lock button started to mess up. I would click it a few times before it finally unlocked/locked the phone. Then it wouldn't work for about 10 minutes at a time, then it would work again for 5 minutes or so, then 10 minutes unresponsive. Then, it stopped working at all. This was about 24 hours ago that it became completely unresponsive. Still hasn't worked since, I have to plug in the charger to get it to unlock. I have tried numerous times the battery pull method, but it hasn't worked once. Any ideas?

Rooted? What Rom? Did you get it wet? What kind of environment do you work in?(industrial with metal/plastic/woodchips or other debris floating in the air).

It could be that the button is broken inside and you might have to send it in for repair(if you activate another phone you'll be forced to pay VM's new 35$/mo pricing). If you know someone whom can actually fix it themselves, I'd say go for that option if possible, provided you're not under warranty.

Yes, it is rooted with the Cyanogenmod 7.2 ROM, but I doubt that would be the problem. Not sure if that voids any warranty or not. I might send it in to get fixed, or just upgrade to the Evo V.
