Trouble signing into Youtube App

Hello there. I've been trying to sign into The youtube app on my htc one, but there is no option to sign in using my existing youtube account. Only way apparently is to make a gmail account? How do I sign in with my old account? I can on my ipad for some reason...

With all things Android your gmail account is the central ID. If you want to use the app you need to have a gmail account. Otherwise the only way is to visit the YouTube website in your browser. PS: You can't download any apps from the Play Store without a gmail address.

That's not true. You need a Google account but it doesn't have to be Gmail.

We are talking about the actual YouTube app here, not YouTube in a browser. In order to sing into the app you need to sign in with a gmail account.
