Trouble Updating to Froyo 2.2

I have been trying to update my HTC Desire HD that is unlocked from the UK. Every time I try to update the operating system file the file will download and then it says the file is corrupt. I can not find a way around this. I would like to be able to update to the Froyo 2.2 operating system. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try? I am ready to junk this stupid phone. Any help will greatly be appreciated!!!

The Desire HD ships with froyo, so what exactly are you trying to update it to?

Unless you're rooted and you're trying to install a different rom?

do i buy this phone (desire HD) or go for the original desire, i'm getting offered either on the same deal?
