Trouble with Bluetooth controls

I'll keep it short. My note 9 would automatically connect to my vehicle and start playing. A minute or two into my drive the audio would cut out and I'd have to use the vehicle voice controls to start it up again. This was normal for my last two vehicles. Now with my note 20 ultra, it behaves the same way but the vehicle voice control does not start the media back up. Weird thing is that if the screen is on it will work but with the screen off it will not. Any idea what I can do to fix this? Thank you.

Was your prior car also a BMW? Just trying to rule out any issues with the way your car manufacturer is implementing music playback.

No but no problems with my note 9. I believe it is the youtube app. It's doing it while using bluetooth headphones as well.
