Trouble with group msg on Nexus 5x

Asking for my friends (a husband and wife) who have Nexus 5x phones. I'm on Samsung S6.

Whenever I group text them, they can't seem to see/download my message and only my message. They see everyone else's but they get the "trouble downloading" error (see picture below where it says "retry download) for my message.

But if I text them directly on SMS, then there's no problem with my messages, they can see them. Any ideas what this could be?

They ALWAYS have the problem and only with my phone as far as they can tell. Especially weird since we're both on Android.

If you're using Advanced Messaging on your S6, therein lies the problem. Turn off that feature and see if that resolves the issue.

Try deleting the conversation thread and starting a new one. I had a similar issue and that fixed it.

I haven't personally confirmed yet, but this is my suspicion - or some "special" text tool/setting they have.
The main reason I think it might be the Adv Msg on Samsung device is bc this is happening on my 5x from Samsung owners.
Similar to another comment, I can receive texts on a 1-to-1 message, but when they participate in the group message, their mesages cannot be downloaded. However, if they send an image/photo in the group message, I can see that - just not any text they send.

I need to get with them soon to test it out or if they even have the desire to switch off any of their special texting.

I assume Advanced Messaging is some way to save either data or alotted text messages on their cellular plan?

Advanced Messaging features can vary from one carrier to the next. Essentially, in order for the features to work, both the sending and receiving devices must have Advanced Messaging enabled, and they may need to be on the same carrier as well. It's one way on AT&T and another on T-Mobile. According to Android Police, it's one big mess. All I know is that I've seen a myriad of complaints involving Advanced Messaging on Samsung phones in combination with group messaging. The advice is always to turn off Advanced Messaging, and that seems to work.
