Trouble with iCloud and app specific password

I am new to android after years with iPhones. I have an honor 10. I am trying with out success to add my iCloud email. I have tried using the mail app, gmail and outlook app all with the same response. Username or password is incorrect. I tried my password and app specific passwords through appleid.apple.com. I have tried copying and pasting and typing them out and still not working. Same error each time. I can login no problem on an apple device. Loving the new phone but it's really no good if i can't get email.

Any help. I have spent hours reading threads here on the issue and using app specific passwords tends to help most people but I'm not having that luck.

I don't want to forward my iCloud emails to another email but right now it's my only solution.

have tried that step by step and its not working. even using the app specific passwords. - Where to go from here? Who knows!
