Hey Android users... and this might also be for iPhones too.
A lot of new phone cases contain a magnet in them to close them shut. This magnet interferes with the compass in your phone, so it is already a good reason to avoid this type of case. But to really add insult to injury, that magnet may harm charging processes in newer smartphones (especially ones that allow wireless charging).
If you have a fliptop case with a magnet, consider removing it if you're having troubles with charging. This is in the S7 forum because this just happened to my S7. It was failing to charge, it would get very hot, and would discharge even when plugged in. The compass played up (of course) and it wasn't until I cut the magnet out of the case that I realised how severe the issue was. The phone now charges appropriately and the compass is back to normal!
