I tried downloading the manual to my tablet and it states that it is downloading, I then go to the notification area where is says download complete. However when I try to open the file it says Not a supported document type. How to I open the file? Thanks.

it's probably a pdf file. I've had the best luck reading pdf manual type files with the kindle app. download and install that from the play store and find the downloaded file in your file manager, open it, it will give you a choice of what app to open with, choose kindle.

see if that helps, good luck

I was able to go into the download files and find the file and then it would open. I don't know why the difference. I have to read up more on how to use the tablet but is there a way to save the file onto the home screen like a widget so I can open it with just pressing on the icon? This would make it easy to get to when I want to read up on a feature. Thanks.

You can get a cool little app from the play store, called File Shortcut, that lets you do just that. (Free)
But one slightly non intuitive thing about this app, is that the documentation is weak. The best way to create a shortcut is to find the file, long press on it, then under the share option, File Shortcut will show up after its installed, choose that, and there are a few options about what icon it has, etc, tap OK, then it will create a shortcut on your home screen. If you want to move it to a different home screen from there, do it like any other homescreen shortcut.

Regarding using Kindle for PDF: Kindle doesn't let you search or highlight words on PDF files. Kindle transforms every page of a PDF file into static screen. Better use the official Adobe Reader app to open PDF files, where you can search, copy, or highlight words.

Regarding putting a PDF file shortcut on the home screen, you can just install the Adobe Reader app and put it on the home screen. Opening Adobe Reader will show you recently opened files, or all PDF files found on your device including SD card.

To answer the OP's question, after you install Adobe Reader (or any PDF viewer app), you should be able to download PDF files from the web. You should be prompted with the request to open the PDF file with your viewer app. Opening it will also save it to your device's "download" folder.

Thanks everyone. I will have to try installing Adobe Reader but I was able to copy a shortcut from the file folder of the manual and install it on my home page. I read the manual, on my PC, and using the information on page 119 about viewing files I was able to create the shortcut to the home page. Pretty easy.

I put this shortcut on my home screenhttp://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/MC/201311/20131108110203896/EN/Eng/start_here.html#contents%2F01_About_this_manual01.html
