Trying to install gingerbread...how to flash?

Hello! Total noob here. I am trying to install Gingerbread on my phone. I rooted using Gingerbreak, and it seemed to work fine. Not wanting to install gingerbreak without a recovery option, I installed ADB, and did the steps to install the Xionia CWMA v1.2518.6 custom recovery. A few questions: Am I on the right path?

Also, once I did the "reboot recovery" on the steps to install the custom recovery, it rebooted into recovery and I wasn't sure what to do next. i just hit "reboot system now" and the phone (Optimus S, LS670, SW version LS670ZVD) rebooted. Was this correct? I only had 4 options: "reboot system now", apply sdcard:update.zip", "wipe data/factory reset", and "wipe cache partition"

Also, I understand that the next steps involve "flashing". What are the steps for this? I know I have a lot of reading to do, so if you could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

Please help!

You don't have custom recovery thats still the stock recovery......try it again....if done correctly of the options will be: apply zip from sd....

Are you sure your rooted do you have superuser installed?

Yes, superuser is installed. I also installed the wireless tether app the other day and it works flawlessly

You need an option that says "install zip from SD" like thabyrdman said. I just flashed from build 04282011 to 04192011 2 hrs ago and it worked flawlessly. Make a nandroid backup and install zip, it'll let you know when its complete, reboot and Viola

See, that's the thing....I don't know how to do a nandroid backup. Everywhere I look to try to learn how, it says use Rom Manager, but Rom Manager doesn't support the Optimus S

in CWM recovery you go to backup and recovery, then make recovery and it starts backing everything up to your sd card

sounds like you might want to take a step back and read thru what exactly you need.

First off.. do Xionia Recovery

Start there and dont worry bout anything else.

If you do the directions EXACTLY as they are written you will get it.

I bet that your issue is that you didnt unzip the image file.

I can almost guarantee thats it. Should be an .img file

PS. I have had to ghost peoples computers to do this for them. Its very possible

Please dont get tempted to use ROM MANAGER either. Its all bad ...

Good! Make sure u have the files in the proper format and try again. About 90 % of the time that this doesn't work its because the file isn't img its a zip.

OK, I had the files correct, and I just tried the Xionia Recovery again, and this time it worked. I must've misstyped somewhere or something. I am now in recovery and it seems to work. I have the option to "install zip from sdcard" and when i click on it, I get four options: "apply sdcard:update.zip" "choose zip from sdcard" "toggle signature verification" and "toggle script asserts." I assume I do the first option, correct?

Oh I see. I am such a noob, sorry. Ok. The phone is doing a nandroid backup right now. Once it's finished, I flash the scott pilgrim rom to the phone to get gingerbread?

Read the thread for Scott Pilgrim. You need to flash the debug system zip. Then the nightly cm7 build zip. Then gapps zip.
