Trying to install

Okay, I've rooted my Dl09, did the clockwork mod (2.5.1.0), cleaned my bloat, now I want to install a kernel.

Picked one to dl (StupidFast 1.54), dl's okay, then I select backup, clear cache and reboot to recovery. All that goes fine, but I see blue writing and it was my understanding that clockwork mod recovery writing is green. So what am I doing/have done wrong?

when it loads the stock recovery screen you need to select update.zip from sd card to boot into CWM and then you can flash the kernel

use this link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2056318/update.zip if you don't have the update.zip and put it in the base folder of your SD card.

okay, I'll give that a try right now. Selected update.zio, pressed home, loading, gone to an icon with a droid, and a triangle w/ exclamation point. I assume I wait?

No, that means that particular file did not work. Remove that file now, and insert this one instead: http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-fascinate.zip

you need to rename it to update.zip

That means CWM didn't install properly. You need to have the update.zip file on your SD card like Nova is talking about and you should flash CWM via Odin instead of through ROM Manager if you did it that way. You can follow the Modified CWMrecovery for Odin (DJ05/DL09) Plus new root instructions (Updated 1/15)thread if you need help with that.

Okay, I'll look over it all again. Thought cwm was installed as it shows up, and it does backup the rom and there is an update.zip file there.

x2, my next recommendation was to re-flash CWM and follow those steps.

If you can get that far then yes, CWM should be working properly. Still try flashing it again to rule out any problem with CWM though. If it still doesn't work, you have a bad file you're trying to install.

flashed CWM again with the files, transferred this newer update I just dl'd, now I'll go back to dl the superfast kernel and see what happens next. Could the problem be in that file or is it in the update one?

Okay, put the downloaded and renamed file onto the sd. Do I download the kernel I want to install or run this kernel from the sd card, maybe this is where I am getting confused.

i had this happen a while back and I simply used the newer update file and i haven't had a single problem since.

I've run the update.zip from recovery and direct from sd card and get teh same error messages both times. Something else is the problem.

something is wrong with the file you've downloaded. sometimes the don't fully download correctly and you need to re-do it.

DL'd multiple times, may be a corruption somewhere. Where is superfast being saved on the device?

Yes to all three. I am shocked as well.

Okay, searched the phone, found the dl'd stupidfastv1.54.zip. Does it need moved to the root of the sdcard along with update.zip?



UPDATE:
That did not work either, same error messages being given. It does not seem to want to recognize any of the kernels.

Uninstalled ROM Manager, re-installed, no difference. I am at a loss.
