Hi,
I am trying to root my Infuse 4g for the first time and am very much lost at what to do. I am consulting XDA-developers forum, android central and other sites; all have DIFFERENT methods/procedures to root. All I want is to run whatever the most latest + stable gingerbread based rom is.

Here is what I have done.

1) I downloaded Titanium Backup

2) Downloaded Kies mini + drivers

3) Superoneclick tool (?) and clicked Root... (I have superuser app = i am rooted?)

4) I have installed Rom Manager (? no idea what it does)

... What do I do next? This site has some other programs that I need to instal to get BUT I am already rooted .. im really really lost and confused... please help

I have 2 questions

Q1) How to make sure I backup my data (SMS, applications, contacts) BEFORE I jump in and transfer Gingerbread to my stock operating system?

* I don't have a huge external SD card (it is full)

Q2) What is the next step to getting Gingerbread rom?

Thanks,
ATK

New to rooting myself. Have done the same steps as you. Actually tried to install a new ROM last night. I'm so new to thus its not funny. I should have my 13 year old do it.

I guess the correct terminology would be I downloaded the ROM, but can't get the phone to flash it. I've read people either hate ROM manager or they love it. That seems to be my problem.

Use the titanium backup to backup your data. I was reading threads and watching YouTube videos for 3 hours trying to install a new ROM. There are lots of threads and sites that will help. Try xda. A lot of people will talk down to noobs. I would state that on any thread you start.

I work 12 hrs a day and haven't been able to get far, just started to root and mess with roms last night. Good luck and if your able to get a new ROM, please advise as I suck at this!

Head over to XDA, choose a ROM and download it, copy and paste to your phone, reebot into recovery, clear data and cache, install the zip file from recovery, and reboot.
That's all there is to flash a ROM, unless you choose MIUI or CM7; then there are different directions, but basically they tell you how to on the first page.

New to rooting myself just did it a couple of days ago. Flashed new rom and overclocked the cpu. Its not really that hard if you research how to do it. Go on you tube and do a search of the roms you are looking to install and watch as many as you can before attempting it. XDA is a huge help for the roms and kernels but can get somewhat confusing at times if you dont know what they are talking about. I spent many hours on the computer reseaching and watching videos and the actual rooting process and rom flash is very simple but i wanted to make sure i didnt miss anything. Do the research and you will enjoy your phone so much more than you could imagine.
