I use chrome,Tapatalk,Gmail, and hangouts mainly. I don't want to show Gmail and hangouts due to personal information, but you can see the phenomenon when switching between chrome and Tapatalk in this youtube video I made. Chrome stays in memory (or at least keeps the last page) but sometimes requires a page reload. However Tapatalk gets kicked out of memory and it loses the page that I am on. I did a demo showing this phenomenon. I apologize for the boring video.

Kind of sad that the memory management is that aggressive. Is there anything in the developer settings that has this defaulted?

Unfortunately, a lot of that is buried in the minfree settings in the kernel (so not user-accessible). It sounds as if both the T2 as well as the newer Samsungs have excessively high thresholds. Once it hits a particular floor of free RAM, it starts hacking and whacking the 'older' and less active apps then works its way up to the more recent ones. All it takes is one of the more memory hungry apps, like Chrome, to go all ram-grabby and it'll wreak havok.... slashing apps even though there is plenty of free memory available.

It's a shame, really... These things have either 3G or 4G of memory on board, so there is no excuse to be so strict. Android is quite capable of handling things going on in the background without midieval kernel settings.

I was thinking of modifying the Keep apps in memory setting in Developer options. But, Leo is probably right.

I would like to ask what app or feature you use to switch apps when you drag your thumb from the left of the screen?
