I know this is probably a stupid question and I am overlooking something but I am trying to turn my facebook interval sync to "never". I can't seem to find this within app settings or anywhere in the app. Is this no longer available with Lollipop and do I just need to uncheck all of the notification boxes? I did that but I still see my facebook app with notifications that someone has commented, liked or done something else without me opening the app. Thanks in advance!!!

My best advice is disable the application completely and use the browser version of FB. that's the only way I could get mine to stop sync etc... And using battery.

Thanks, I was hoping I didn't have to resort to this, however, if I have to I will...

Does anyone else have a solution/options?

If you're talking about contacts syncs and all that it's on the FB app. App settings. Contacts sync is at the very bottom and you have to scroll to see it.

I have all the syncing off, but notification on (in fb app settings). Also go into Applications>fb>app info and uncheck notifications. That should do it.

This set up allows me to receive notification badges on the app but not blowing up my phone. If that makes any sense lol.

If you don't want even the badges to show then just uncheck them all in the app settings.

Go to settings - datausages - find facebook there and click on it. Next page check on it too and it will disable sync while data neetwork is on, but it will still sync when using wifi network.
While at it, go to settings - apps - Facebook and uncheck "Show messages/notification" and get rid of all annoying notifications and sounds. It wont stop background sync, but since u want disable sync and no need for facebook notifications.

Or use Greenify to Auto Hibernate Facebook or any app. (follow greenify guide how to enable it) But any related to facebook will wake facebook up and thats alot of apps. Unless you find all apps related to facebook and hibernate them all.

Thank you so much. I was wanting to know the answer to this too. I couldn't find the notifications options for Facebook under apps

Edit: I just realised the notification settings was in the app itself. In ios apps have their notifications turned off in notification settings not in the app itself. Wow this is going to take me forever to get used to the differences between ios and Android

Just disable it. I can't believe that you can not uninstall this crap.

I have zero use for Facebook. :p

I need Facebook as my LDR partner is in America and I am in Australia. We use Facebook to communicate. Some people don't have the luxury of communicating with people offline. Yet...

On mine, I can only turn OFF the Notifications, via the APP setting for FB. I don't see a "when to Sync" option Data Usage /Settings ... strange.

John: Thank you for your help. You seem to be the only person on the Internet who understands this stuff. I checked Restrict background data as you recommended. I will be taking my phone to Europe and only plan to turn on data away from WiFi when I need to use Google Translate or a GPS app. I don't want Facebook to be downloading all the new posts and running up costly data charges whenever I do this. Do you think this will solve my concern? I can always check Facebook whenever I'm at a WiFi spot.
