Ok,i know some of you are gonna wonder "why would you want to turn off lte you idiot .?" Or " just turn off mobile data when your not usuing it" and so on,and ill say for battery life increase(: and might possibly use less data if you have a data cap like me. First, this isnt a way to turn of lte,but rather get your phone to connect to Hspa+ and not connect to lte, best thing about it,you CAN switch back and forth lte when YOU choose to. Go to settings>more settings>APN > and hit menu, and select new apn.
Then type in the following in the corresponding fields.
Name: AT&T WAP
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: <not set>
Port: <not set>
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
passwork: <not set>
Server: <not set>
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: default
APN protocal: IPv4

Do not mess with the ones that say "not set" Now go back then select this Apn and you should drop off lte and onto Hspa+ , give it a few min. as it wont change right away.
This is not bullet proof as i have experienced some no data connection moments but i thought id just put it out there for those who wish to turn off lte on their choosing.

How do I know if my phone is on LTE or Hspa?

If your on lte, your network connection icon will say "4G" with the 3 letters "LTE" underneath,if your just on hspa, itll just say "4G"..

I wonder if this could bypass AT&T's throttling for us unlimited folks??

In theory,it might. Cause i dont know forsure but they throttle your network by exactly just that,by assuming your phone is still usuing the original Apn it was already on. Changing it might let you slip by their throttling walls. And have a pretty decent connection speed. Id cheak it out it i where you. Be pretty sweet to never be throttled and use all the data you can. Its like being at a buffet and never getting full lol.

If your experiencing complete signal drops try this Apn.
Name: AT&T HSPA+
Apn: wap.cingular

And dont change anything else. Lol. I havent had a dead zone at all.. yet.. we'll have to.. try it out guys, and report back on what your getting. :)

I hope you guys know you can just flash a custom rom that has a GSM network toggle. Will give you the options:

GSM Only
GSM/HSDPA (auto)
HSDPA (Only)
LTE/HSDPA/GSM (auto)

GSM means EDGE

Some people dont know how to root or dont want to root bro,so i was just keepin' it simple for an all-user friendly method.

Saw that method too,ill try it later and see if it wont disconnect like changing the apn does.

I never even bothered trying the APN method once I figured the SIM trick. I used it without LTE for almost 2 weeks with zero issues whatsoever.
