So Samsung's got this neat feature that's tucked away in the accessibility options. Thought I'd share as some may find it useful and might not be aware that it exists.

It's similar to how Motorola do it but it uses the proximity sensor so you have to have your hands fairly close, bit it works well enough anyway.

Handy if you have greasy/sticky hands and don't want to touch the phone but want to check notifications, without having AOD on.
 
Just remember that the battery life may take a hit from this. It is after all another sensor that's forever running in the background.
 
I love my S7 but I miss the automatic on feature that my BlackBerry had. Just pick it up and it turns on
