Android Central Question

For the last few months I have turned off all automatic downloads/updates on my Galaxy S7.

Since then I have noticed the odd time that something was downloading very quickly, so quickly, that I couldn't see what it was. To catch it I changed the phone to make a sound when it is downloading and I have seen that this automatic download appears to be generated by Google (Play). It happens at least once a week, always on WIFI. I have not been able to stop this process.

The latest one I caught was "Play security information update". A search implies that this is some sort of automatic Google Play process. Does anyone know a way to stop this process from happening automatically apart from permanently seperating the phone from WIFI?

Play, Play Services, Support Services and a few others will update automatically, because if Play changes, and you don't, you can't install anything from Play any more. (That happened when it went from Market to Play - the Market app updated to do it both ways, then after Google had changed, it updated again to use Play. Those who had phones on Market sitting in a drawer for a year or two found that, when they reactivated the phone, it wouldn't connect to Market [because it no longer existed] but wouldn't connect to Play because they didn't have the Play app - and couldn't install it because they couldn't connect to Play.)
