Signed up with Google Voice, installed Groove IP, Remote Wave, purchased Plantronics Backbeats Go Bluetooth earphones, T-mobile hotspot for wifi on the fly. A little tweaking of settings and I am ready to give cell carriers the kiss off!:p

Sure the tablet isn't actually a pocket device like a cell phone but I always have it with me and the ear buds automatically switch from music to call and back which is great. I can travel a 30 foot radius away from tablet still connected. Surf while in call too!

Google voice does text messaging, voicemail and sends email call alerts as well as transcribes voicemail that gets read back via Remote Wave.

Bye bye 100.00 per month cell bill! Adios carrier contracts! Thank you Android! Thank you developers! Thank you Google! Thank you acer! Thank you Plantronics! Thank you T-mobile! :D

Hey thanks for the post.
I also have an Acer A100 with Groove IP and Remote Wave installed for google calls, but I would like to use this away from home too.
How again do you get wifi access when you are not at home - what exactly is "T-mobile hotspot for wifi", is there a cost for this?
I was thinking of purchasing Truconnect ($99 plus $4.95 per month).
Thanks!

What started out as a promising venture didn't pan out.while technically I got google voice to work on the tablet, in real life the connection with a live phone (verses voicemail) just was incoherent stuttering and static. Then discovered that my magic jack won't forward to google voice either.

So picked up a T mobile Samsung Galaxy S II

Magic jack to the rescue! Have a Magic Jack account for the house. Works nicely. Magic Jack has developed an Android App! Absolutely wonderful! So now, as long as I have a good wi-fi connection I can make phone calls using my tablet! Also loaded the MAgic Jack app on my Galaxy S2 with T-mobile which I have only 100 minutes of talk, and now I can call and talk to people from the cell phone but NOT using CELL minutes -only data - which is unlimited! I am experiencing charging issues with the tablet right now, but my hope is to eliminate the 45.00 per month plan, move to the 35.00 for 60 days hotspot only plan and use my Acer A100 as my communication via Magic Jack and of course Facebook and email. Will see. My preliminary trials were successful.
