turning off email

i am new with the LG G2, i am almost finish setting it up, one question i have is, i have an email account set up, i get alot of email and notice it uses up quite some battery life, is there a way to turn off email without disabling the account, so if i want to check the mail once in awhile i can.

Welcome to Android Central! Open the Email app, tap Menu>Settings, select your email account, and look for the sync settings. Change it to a longer interval, or Manual if possible.

You can also turn off the notifications. Settings-->accounts-->select account and turn off the notifications. You can still check them but it won't alert you of the new ones. Also as the previous poster suggested, change the syncing.
