turning off notification

Hello. Sorry. Another new Android user question.

How do you turn off the notifications ringer tone? I can only find where it allows you to change the ringtone and there is no option for none.

if you open your text/email app and hit menu go to settings,notification ringtone and scroll through the ringtones there is one towards the top that says silent that will do it ,you must select this in both apps, or for temporary fix hit the volume down button untill you get to silent or vibrate but then that effects your ringer also. hope this helps.
