Is there a step-by-step tutorial out there somewhere?

First of all, if you are on the MF3 build firmware, you cannot install a custom ROM and therefore cannot get Google Edition on your phone.

If you aren't, you need to read the link in my signature, read the guides linked there, and learn how the whole custom ROM process works. From there, you should know how to install a custom ROM and you may choose one based on the Google Edition software like "Kangabean".
