Two newbie questions

so one thing my old phone did (galaxy s) was display a new text or missed call directly on the lock screen every time I got either when my phone's display was off. I can't figure out how to enable this on the n4. I see you that the lock screen has this giant circle thing going on but idk how to get anything on it or how to enable it to display my notifications.

The other question was when you hold the home button and get the Google now thing to pop up, there's like a semi circle with quite a bit of space. is there a way to put apps on it?

I'm using nova launcher btw.
sorry for the newbie questions, I've been on gingerbread/touchwiz for quite a while.

Accessing text messages from the lock screen is a touchwiz thing.

Yes iphones do that. On the nexus and android in general, you can swipe down from the status bar while on the lock screen to see your new text message. I'm not sure about missed calls as I am also knew to android too but I'm pretty sure it would also show up if you swiped down from the status bar to show the notification center.

yea i knew I could do it from the notification bar but I don't like reaching all the way up there all the time lol

Why dont you just use the messaging widget on the lockscreen?

good idea ill try that. what about for missed calls?

edit: just tried the messaging widget, I guess this could work but honestly would prefer something more like an icon on the main lockscreen (with the clock). picky, I know

Try widgetlocker.

Try widgetlocker.

last time I tried that (on my galaxy) it kept interfering with the default lockscreen. like for a few seconds the default would show and then it would go to the widget locket lock screen. Does it still do this?

Disable the stock lockscreen and it should work just fine.

appreciate it man. With widget locker I would just drag the actual apps on the lockscreen to get what I want right? Also know anything about getting apps on the semi circle when you hold down the home button?

You can pull the notification center down from the lockscreen (if you don't have a password) and you'll get a summary of all your texts/calls/etc. If you got say 5 texts from a person you can pull that notification down and it will display them all

Don't know if that's what you were asking, but a helpful tip anyway!

lol already knew that but thanks anyways. I was talking more like how touchwiz and ios display a notification icon directly on the lockscreen. and the other thing I wanted to know was when you hold down the home button to get to Google now, you see that semi circle there? I was wondering if I can put app shortcuts there

Yes HTC sense displays it as well, well least last time i checked it did. I always thought it was the normal to show the latest missed call/text info?

Another option would be to download a third party messaging app from the Play store. I use GoSMS. You mentioned the iPhone popup on the lock screen, and I believe this app allows you to do the same thing. Not sure of a work around for the missed calls, but messaging is def out there.

you could always root the phone to your liking..1 option i guess

meh not comfortable with that lol too afraid ill screw something up
