Two weeks in and thinking about returning

Check the location settings I know I ran into a problem for when I left the GPS and google locations on for a while the battery life crashed hard . Also do have the facebook app installed? I know I was having a problem with it constantly waking to do gps location lock. I use the web version now. If these things dont work there may be a problem with the unit its self.

I would try the location and face book thing then factory reset to see if that works.

Hope you figure it out.

I have location set to Battery Saving (Network Only) and do not have Facebook installed. Just turned off all Google location reporting to see if that helps but that wouldn't be included in the drain I am seeing from Android OS would it?

And a question I have about factory resetting. What exactly do I lose? As I said being new to an Android phone I am used to iOS where the iCloud backup would pretty much restore everything to how it was. Is that true of the google back up? I realize some downloaded things may be lost but will all apps I have installed be on there with data intact and all settings preserved with things like Nova prime which I am using?

Please backup and then Factory Reset. I too had battery issues. I have done about 3 Factory Resets to get things under control. Battery life finally improved. Then I got the update, and it improved the battery immensely, so I am getting my day out of it. I have my display set at 30% (okay, 29% cuz I can't slide perfectly to 30...lol).

Are you on AT&T like the OP? My guess is AT&T nonsense is going on with the OP's phone. They do their magic at times to mess up a perfectly good device. But it could be a rogue app. So do a factory reset and install minimal apps.

1. Take your battery out, then reinsert.
2. Clear cache: Power phone off then>Hold power button & volume down until it powers up>You will be at the System recovery screen> select "wipe cache"

Do the above 2 in order. Sometimes a rogue app or a system glitch causes this, by doing the above hopefully you clear out any errors.

***As a precaution I do this about once or twice a month.

Is this the same as a factory reset or is everything retained on the phone and just the cache cleared?

I ran into this overnight drain also-wiped cache and installed snapdragon battery guru(free) and all is well - good luck

No not the same.
A factory reset is always a last resort. That is why I am suggesting the above. You will not lose any data, settings, or info. It clears out any errors and or glitches in OS and or Apps that are hung up somehow.

When I do that all I get is the option to do a factory reset? Do not see any other options like I should in recovery mode to wipe the cache?

What carrier are you with? It should be the same for all LG3 phones as far as I know.

Am with A T and T. Tried a couple more times and all I get is the option to factory reset. Your instructions say to hold power and volume key down together until phone boots up. Do you keep holding down? Other sites say to release power button once LG logo comes up and then repress it. Doing that brings up the recovery option. If I keep holding both down I just seem to boot into the phone regularly.

Hold both down. If someone else here is on ATT and knows if it is different than Verizon, please chime in.

Tried holding them both down through the whole boot process and it booted me into safe mode. No chance to get into the recovery mode

When you said remove apps, was that disabling the bloatware apps in the application manager?

Did the factory reset yesterday afternoon. Fully charged the phone and left it unplugged overnight. Got up this morning and the battery was at 99 percent. Now it is a matter of determining if some app was causing the problem or a glitch in the OS. Seems like the latter as my battery usage indicator always showed the OS as the culprit. Never an individual app using an inordinate amount of battery.

It's possible for an app to wake your Android os and cause battery drain.

After installing greenify, textra and xda free keeps waking up mine. I've hibernated them both. Too soon to tell if it helped but at least I know they aren't doing what they usually did.

Interesting. I do have Textra installed and use it frequently. But I definitely had the battery problem way before I installed it too so I am thinking it is something else.
