TWRP Nandroid Backup Question

I could swear I've seen the answer to this posted before, but I've done half a dozen different searches and can't find it. So....

When doing a Nandroid Backup from within TWRP there are checkboxes for System, Data, Boot, Recovery and Cache. Which of these are truly necessary to back up?

I usually do all. This way you have a complete/full working backup of your current setup. Kernel, Recovery, OS & Data.

You could always be selective though and just do System/Data/Cache if your not worried about the kernel & recovery..

Twrp is soo confusing to me, that's why I stick with cmw, it may not have the same features but everything seems simple

Thanks. I ended up backing up everything before flashing MA6, but I'll subscribe to this thread so I can find it next time.

you should always backup System, Data, boot.

You should at least once back up efs and modem, the first time you use the custom recovery you should make an originial back up of system, data,boot,efs, and modem. EFS and Modem . EFS holds all your communitication information most importantly the IMEI , modem is a back up of the phones radio.

After having EFS and modem backed up at least once there is no need to back them up again. You never really have to backup Recovery or cache.
Dont bother touching compression or md5 stuff. Compression saves space but more chances of corruption.

So in a nutshell just worry about system data and boot for most cases.

It is in the backup Page lower on the Page. If you don't see them then you are not using twrp

Thanks ive been also looking for an answer for this question and now i know the important to tick in the back up options is boot,system and data right? my only question now is...when youre going to restore that back up after you dont like the costum rom you installed,, do you just simply browse that file and the sd card then click restore?? thanks in advance

Yes, boot, system & data.

If you mean browse to the file in TWRP, then yes. I would suggest also clearing cache and dalvik before or after the restore.

Yeah, just hit restore and then look for the backup you want. They should be named by date and time, so you'll know which one you need if you have multiple.
