I've read some of the similar posts but I'm not sure if my issue is identical....

After attempting to root I then tried to use ROM Manager to make a backup and it said the SD card wasn't recognized. I took out the battery and rebooted and I could see all the apps again that I'd had on the SD card...so then I went back into ROM Manager to try again...and it said again the card wasn't there - and all the apps disappeared again.

When I did the rooting steps, it rebooted several times, said it was a "triumph" and I actually got a message that the root was "done"...so I'm stumped that this is happening...

I did all the below:

Step 1: Install and uninstall HTC sync. It installs needed drivers onto your computer, and leaves them there when you uninstall the program. Un-install is needed so it does not interfere with the reflash program.

Step 2: Download modified USB drivers. Boot phone into bootloader. Plug in cable and select HBOOT USB. When pop up window comes up select install from specific location. Browse and find the modified USB driver file and hit ok.

Step 3: Turn Phone on. Run reflash package and follow directions when they come up, be patient and let it do its thing. Phone will reboot a few times. When successful it will tell you.

Ideas?

When I rooted my phone it was a little more in depth than that... I used the unrEVOked Forever method with screenshots that's stickied in this forum.

Wish I could help!

Did you use unrevoked3? That's what it sounds like. Reboot your phone and when it comes on, does the SD card icon pop up momentarily? Go to your setting and go to storage. See if it is mounted or if you are able to mount it. Let me know.

Also do you have a space micro SD card to try? Have you taken your SD card put recently? I have to say I hate the design HTC used on our SD card slot. I had my phone in sprint for a repair, tech took my SD card out during repair, got it back and it would not find it. Bought a new SD card and it found it with no problem.

What's weird is that once I unhooked the USB to my laptop, the apps (most of them anyway) showed back up on my EVO...

Now, I rebooted again and I did get the icon at the top saying "Preparing SD Card" or something similar and says the card is mounted with 11 gb remaining.

How can I know for sure that I'm actually rooted?

When looking at your bootloader screen (screen with the 3 skateboarding androids) it will say s-off. Have you tried to go into recovery and do the back up manually?

Thanks everybody - I am rooted!

I was also able to download Titanium Backup...just have to get a new ROM now to enjoy all the benefits....
