Typing hacks

I'm frequently frustrated by my keyboard. I like Swype, conceptually, but I think there are some design flaws.

I used to have a Treo 600 and a 650 after that. One wonderful app that made things a lot easier was called Keycaps 600. It made it so, when typing, a brief press on the key, let's use the R key for example, would produce r--a lower case r. if you held the key for a fraction of a second, it would change the r to R. if you held on to it for another fraction of a second, the R would change to the symbol above the R-key, whatever that was, in our case, a 1.

This was FANTASTIC. Typing was so much easier after that, not having to press or hold another function key to change between letters and symbols, caps and lower case.

In addition, the user could set the delay in milliseconds, so if it slowed you down, you could shorten the delay. You could also select the order of the switches. If you wanted to switch through lower case/symbols/upper case, you could do that, too.

Does anything like this exist for Android, or can somebody please WRITE THIS APP? It would make data entry even faster.
