U.S. carriers backing off Note 7

In a perfect world, this fiasco would mean the end of carriers' stranglehold on phones not made by Apple.
Especially since subsidized phones are a thing of a past, things should be more like they are everywhere outside of North America.

Part of the problem with the recall has been the filter through which phones reach the public in the first place.
I plan to have a V20 as the backup in the future but in reality, it will not compare to a Note 7, even unlocked.
So frustrated with Samsung. Last year they dropped a rubbish group of phones trying to play catch up with Apple. Now this year, their top of the line was rushed and they pay the price for it.

Pixel is a non-starter; priced too high for what you get, no microSD, and the features don't compare. I'd sooner pay less for a Nexus 6P if I could deal w/o microSD.

V20 has the old Note 4 features I miss but I doubt it will have the battery life to compare. No water resistance.

S7 Edge has less internal storage, won't have Grace UX until Nougat (?); but hey, at least you can get it in pink from Best Buy. Unlocked elsewhere (if you want a Silver model or the Olympic Model).

I'm keeping my Note 7. But sucks that so many will be missing out because of this.

And if I'm on the same flight as you, I'd rather you not bring it :)

I understand there are people who would like them not to be on planes at all. That said, if they are not recalled or banned, people will still own them and want to bring them on a plane. Until Samsung and the feds release a clear statement regarding the Note 7 replacement phones, the situation is going to be sticky at best.
