UCCW and the widget bounding box

I kicked off my first UCCW project with a very simple task ? a widget to display the next alarm time on the screen. As you can see from the graphic below its nothing fancy, no icons, just a hotspot to open the clock app when tapped.

The problem I have is illustrated by the bounding box around the widget when placed on the screen.

The UCCW format I selected from the menu of available widgets was "UCCW 2x1" - 2 wide & 1 deep. The 1?1 made the text too small. As you can see from the image the bounding box is far too deep, and at that size no other desktop icons can be placed immediately below that widget, and I can't resize the bounding box by dragging the handles. When released they just bounce back to the original size.

Clearly I'm missing something in the design process, as other UCCW projects I have looked at by other people don't seem to have this problem.

Advice most welcome.

The only solution here would be to use a launcher like nova that allows widget overlapping and resizing, as stock launchers will allow you to resize them larger but not smaller than the original size, or to choose a larger widget bounding and fit all information you would like in one widget.

That might be *A* solution, but I doubt very much that it is *THE* solution.

There must be thousands of widgets have been created by users of UCCW, and after extensive searching I can't find any that exhibit the problem I have illustrated.

Thus I have to suspect it is the result of something I have done, or not done, during the creation of my widget.

But I have finally found an email address for the developer, so here's hoping he actually does support!

I recommend removing the uccw shortcut from your home screen, it is not necessary and takes up part of the row beneath your widget, which would contribute to why you cannot place a widget below it, unless it is also 2x1. Secondly, on the stock launcher you can only adjust widgets to the restraints of your launcher. This means that, if you are using the stock launcher, you are restricted to the paddings and desktop grids of the stock launcher. On my stock launcher, this is 4x4, which looks to be true of your launcher as well. This means that you can only adjust the widgets x bounding, or, horizontally; think the 2 out of 2x1. You cannot make the y bounds of the widget smaller than the whole size of one x1 grid of your launcher.

This is why I recommend a third party launcher such as nova. Nova lets you over lap widgets, as well as change the amount of rows and columns in your desktop grid, allowing for more precise resizing of your widget, since there are more X x Y's on your desktop. It also allows you to remove the x and y padding, or, the margins along the side of the screen.

I hope the developer can offer you some further insight if I am incorrect.
